What is Cingal?
Cingal is a single injection treatment to reduce the knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. Highly viscous, it contains purified hyaluronan as well as the steroid triamcinolone.
What is it made of?
Cingal is a thick combination of hyaluronan from non-animal origins and the steroid triamcinolone hexacetonide. A chemical that is naturally found in the body, the hyaluronan that is found in Cingal is made from bacterial fermentation and acts as a lubricant in the knee. Hyaluronan is required for the knee joint to function both properly and optimally.
What are Cingal’s uses?
Cingal is an excellent option for patients who have not been able to find relief from osteoarthritis knee pain when using acetaminophen, exercise, or physical therapy. The hyaluronan lubricates the joint and provide lasting pain relief, while the steroid acts as a short-term pain reliever by reducing local inflammation.
How long do its effects last?
The results may last up to 26 weeks and pain relief occurs within 24 hours.
